We Implemented Azerbaijan’s First Data Lakehouse Project with PASHA Bank
As Doğuş Teknoloji, in collaboration with PASHA Bank, we have successfully completed Azerbaijan’s first Data Lakehouse project to be taken into production. Leveraging our expertise in data architecture, cloud technologies, and big data, we transformed the bank’s traditional data warehouse into a modern, open-source-based, and scalable Data Lakehouse architecture.
Why Was Transformation Necessary?
PASHA Bank’s existing Data Warehouse structure could no longer meet the needs for speed, flexibility, and real-time processing, as the system was only able to refresh data flows at specific intervals, significantly limiting responsiveness, agility, and instant operational requirements.
Accordingly, we transformed the bank’s data platform into a structure that is:
- flexible,
- scalable,
- modular,
- capable of processing data both in batch and real time with the new architecture.
Thanks to this architecture, data processing speeds increased significantly, development processes became more agile, and data flows turned far more dynamic.
Technologies and Infrastructure Used
The project utilized advanced open-source technologies such as Apache Spark, Airflow, S3 Storage, Kafka, Debezium, and Iceberg.
To ensure the enterprise-grade reliability required for banking, we adapted these solutions to the production environment with IOMETE support. This enabled PASHA Bank to experience the full flexibility of open-source technologies together with corporate standards.
Team and Project Management
Our Cloud Data Technologies team worked closely with PASHA Bank over a period of seven months, completing the following phases end to end:
- analysis,
- architecture design,
- development,
- transition to production.
Measurable Outcomes
- The refresh time of hourly updated datasets was reduced to 17 seconds.
- The daily data preparation process was shortened from 6 hours to 45 minutes.
- Critical operations such as fraud detection and risk scoring now run in real time.
These gains accelerated PASHA Bank’s decision-making processes with speed, accuracy, and agility, while reinforcing Doğuş Teknoloji’s leadership in regional data transformation.
A Regional First and a Strategic Milestone
As the first Data Lakehouse project to go live in Azerbaijan, this initiative represents not only a technical upgrade but also a transformation in PASHA Bank’s data-driven decision-making culture.
With our open-source-based, scalable, and sustainable architecture, we have set a new standard in the banking ecosystem.
